Safe, Efficient Treatment with Advanced Dental Technology
Cerec® Technology
CEREC® – One-visit Dentistry
Dr. Reasner is proud to provide his patients in need of restorations with the latest CEREC 3-D Technology. He began with the CEREC system when it was in its infancy. In fact Dr. Reasner was the first in Birmingham to employ this dental technology, he has now been using the CEREC system for over 12 years. The CEREC system has revolutionized the dental field by meeting the needs of our patients in a more convenient manner. CEREC® Restorations are top quality biocompatible porcelain crowns and veneers fabricated with state-of-the-art CAD software in just one visit to the office. CEREC® technology combines the benefits of restorative and cosmetic dentistry, restoring teeth that are decayed, broken, or discolored, and returning beauty and function to the smile.
The procedure for placement of a CEREC® restoration is very simple. The first step is to remove all decay from the tooth. Dr. Reasner will then shape the tooth in preparation to take a digital picture. Once this image is captured, the tooth will appear on a computer screen in 3D. This will allow the Dr. Reasner to design the restoration right in front of you. Once the design is completed, the CEREC® will mill the restoration. When the restoration is ready, Dr. Reasner places it on the tooth and assures a flawless fit with your surrounding teeth and bite. You can then leave our office with confident of a long lasting, beautiful completed restoration.
Benefits of CEREC 3D Restorations
- The restoration is started and finished in a single session.
- No need to wear a temporary crown which may break or fall off.
- No need to make a messy impression which would go to a lab.
- No need for a return visit for the patient!
- The restoration is natural looking, as it is made out of tooth-colored ceramic material.
- The ceramic material has the same physical characteristics of tooth enamel, unlike laboratory porcelains. It strengthens the tooth, and is kind to the surrounding teeth while being very strong and once in place, virtually unbreakable.
- Metal-free – no silver-colored fillings.
- Allows dentist to save more of the healthy tooth.
- Extremely precise. The restoration is bonded permanently in place.
Digital Radiography
As part of our commitment to provide the latest technologies for our patients we utilize the use of digital radiography. Digital radiography is a type of X-ray imaging that uses digital X-ray sensors to replace traditional photographic X-ray film. There are many benefits to using digital X-rays including:
Significant reduction of radiation exposure to patients
Immediate viewing of X-ray image
Better visualization due to image-enhancement capabilities such as magnification, contrast, and coloring
Rapid and superior diagnoses
Environmentally friendly- total elimination of darkroom, chemicals, and films
Easy image sharing with other dentists or third-parties
iCat 3D Imaging
Cone Beam 3D Imaging
Our office is one of the few offices in Birmingham to have an in-office, state-of-the-art, i-CAT Cone Beam 3-D Imaging System. Just like medical CT scans, the i-CAT gives Dr. Reasner an advanced and detailed three-dimensional look inside the interior of your upper and lower jaws. This information is essential for most of our dental implant patients. These computer-generated images will give Dr. Reasner critical diagnostic information such as the location of nerves and sinuses, as well as the width, shape and density of the jawbone. This information can be used to help determine the most appropriate implant (size and shape) for each patient, minimizing the risk of nerve damage and eliminating any unwelcome “ surgical surprises”.
While the i-CAT gives Dr. Reasner similar information as a medical CT scan, the i-CAT has a radiation dose that is about one-tenth that of medical CT scans. While we used to have to refer our patients out to an outside imaging center for i-Cat images, we can now take it at the consultation saving the patient time and money.
Dental Laser
Laser dentistry is a relatively recent advancement in gentle, more precise dental care with many applications. This revolutionary technology allows dentists to treat patients with great precision, meaning less pain and quicker healing. Diode lasers can be used in several cosmetic dentistry and minor surgical procedures.
